Helsinki, the capital of Finland, is well known for its neo-classical, art nouveau, and modernist architecture. The city center with the university is situated on a peninsula surrounded by the sea. With its attractive coastline and beautiful archipelago, as well as its many museums and cultural events, Helsinki offers a large choice of tours and excursions. It is a safe and reliable destination, which is easy to reach from all over the world. Helsinki is known as "the Daughter of the Baltic." Favorite activities for visitors include exploring the Market Square and taking a boat trip around the harbor. Distinctive structures include the Rock Church, carved out of solid rock; the Sibelius Monument; and the lineup of neo-classic buildings around Senate Square.
Architecture in Helsinki is rich and varied, because both the Swedes and the Russians left their distinct stamps on the city during their respective periods of rule, and the rapid development of Finland since independence eighty years ago has added even more to the building environment.
The history of the Finns is presented is a comprehensive and interesting forum at the National Museum and on the island of Seurasaari. Seurasaari is an enormous open-air museum of vernacular wooden buildings collected from many regions of the country and reassembled there. On Seurasaari, you can enjoy outdoor activities in a traditional Finnish milieu.
The most unique tourist site in the city is Suomenlinna, a sea fortress on a group of interconnected islands just offshore. Suomenlinna is on the Unesco World Heritage List. You can have a look on Suomenlinna during the social excursion of the conference.
These days, Helsinki is a rapidly growing cosmopolitan city with one million inhabitants in the metropolitan region. While offering a wide variety of events and high quality cultural activities, the city has been successful in preserving its unique affiliation with nature.

There are a number of excellent travel websites that can help you to plan additional travel. One is www.infohub.com/TRAVEL/SIT/sit_pages/Finland.html.
